Celtic Solstice - Week 6 - A Finished Top

I spent time on New Year's Day trimming all my blocks to 3 1/2", but I was so excited that Bonnie released the reveal that I also had to sew a few blocks.

Then we had a big winter storm come through so I took a few snow days and stayed home from work.  When we weren't shoveling the dog's ramp or clearing her a path in the yard, I squeezed in some more time sewing and got all the blocks finished and all the rows put together.

I had a busy weekend taking down the tree and putting all the Christmas decorations away, but I did find time to cut and piece my Celtic Solstice borders - I even made the binding already!

If you remember, I made half the blocks of the small version.  That worked out perfectly for the 54/40 or Fight blocks, but I needed to piece two additional chevron and shaded triangle units (total of 52 completed units) for the Birthday Girl blocks to end up with a 5 x 5 block setting. Half of the orange tri-recs units didn't work for the borders either. I needed to make a total of 68 orange units for the middle border.  With all the borders attached, the "mini" version ends up at 59 x 59. The perfect size for a lap quilt for me since I'm only 5'2".

I hope to piece the backing and get this top basted next weekend.

Did you see all the completed blocks (and many completed tops) over on Bonnie's blog?  Everyone must have had their sewing machines smoking last weekend to get all that piecing done!

I had so much fun participating in this Mystery quilt-along! I know I'll participate again next year.
